This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out of French Boxwood (Buxus sempervirens) with Bocote (Cordia elaeagnoides) cap. Boxwood is a hard and heavy wood from a slow growing, small shrub, a very popular ornamental plant in gardens, particularly for topiary and hedges.  It is the densest wood that the entire European continent has to offer. The wood is often used to make woodwind instrument, chess pieces, engraving and as ivory substitute due to its extremely fine grain, my favorite wood for turning.  This particular piece also has striking color stains and a small knot instead of the normal uniform yellow. Partner with the striped Bocote cap, this acorn is a real beauty!
