LV-2223 Blue oak Burl & Kou Acorn Jewelry Box, Pill Box, Trinket Box-SCREW CAP

LV-2223 Blue oak Burl & Kou Acorn Jewelry Box, Pill Box, Trinket Box-SCREW CAP

$ 98.00

This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out of Blue Oak Burl (Quercus douglasii) with Kou (Cordia subcordata) cap. Blue Oak is a California endemic species, often found on California interior foothills. The name refers to the blue-green color of the leaves. Blue oak is not a commerial species, so the wood itself is rare. Here, I have a small piece of burl with incredible figure, completed with bark inclusion, black stain, natural voids, packed in such a small acorn. The burl wood is very dense and hard. Kou is related to the Mexican Ziricote, a Hawaiian native that become increasingly rare. The wood is dark with darker veins. Ko'u was used by the Hawaiian for plates, bowls, spoons, and other utensils since the wood does not have any taste or smell. It is a very nice dark wood capable of a lustrous finish. This acorn show cases rare timbers from two states I considered home. This is the one and only Blue Oak acorn I can make from that small block of burl.

A nice box for your valuables. The screw-on cap makes this nature inspired box extra special and ensures that your content is secured, good for jewelry, keepsake... Through the ages, people has given out acorns as a symbol of prosperity and luck. This one is a unique gift.
