This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out of Masur Birch (Betula alba) with Mopani (Colophospermum mopane) cap. Birch is the national tree of Finland and Russia. It is also one of the sacred tree of the Druids tradition, representing inception, birth of new life. But this is no ordinary birch, the Masur is a unique figuring in the wood that resemble burl or birdseye in maple. The effect is striking! The African Mopani Mopane wood is one of southern Africa's heaviest timbers.  It is also the wood of choice for woodwind instruments.  The gnarly root chunks of the tree is often seen for sale as aquarium decoration since the heavy wood will sink in water.
