This is a round box made out of Mun Ebony (Diospyros mun) with Camatillo (Dalbergia congestiflora) cap. Camatillo is a true rosewood species with a beautiful deep purple color and darker streaks. It is one of the rarer timber since the tree never grow very big. The wood is extremely fine, polishes up to a hard shine. This round box is larger than what I normally make with a 3" diameter and coarser threads. I place a penny inside the box for size reference. It is a rare item since Camatillo blank of this size is difficult to come by. The pattern on this box is truly fantastic, both the rosewood top and ebony bottom. Mun is my favorite ebony species for several reasons: the wood is very fine and easy to work with, the patterns can be very striking and a hint of green tint make this ebony special, the wood is very stable, dimensionally. The all-wood threaded box is a rare commodity. The screw-on cap is what make this box extra special. It can be used to hold pills and small valuables...The screw cap ensures that your content is secured. I don't make flat boxes very often. Since there is very little space to maneuver the threaded cap, flat boxes require very careful matching of the threads for a smooth, spin-on/spin-off operation.
