This is a small acorn shaped box made out of Olive Burl (Olea europaea) with Betelnut (Areca catechu) cap. Olive is a tree of many religious, cultural and economic significants. The leafy branches of olive are considered as a symbol of abundance, glory and peace. Olive oil also has been considered sacred and is till use in many religious ceremonies. The oil and fruit are important ingredients in many cuisines. Olive is the most mentioned tree in the Western sacred texts and literatures. And the wood is one of my favorite with it's extra fine grain and beautiful figure, specially a burly one like this. Capped with betelnut, an important palm nut in SE Asia and Oceania cultures. It is chewed with betel leaves and lime for the mild stimulant effect (this concoction produces a bright red juice when chewed and is definitly an accquired taste. I know. I tried it before). It is often offered as a sign of hospitality and friendship. The nut is also accociated with legends and is a symbol for marital love. This acorn is truly loaded with cultural significant.

It is ready to dangle off your keychain, bag zipper, belt with the removable lobster claw. The nut is small enough to be worn as a pendant (without the claw). Good for small daily pills, keepsake...Not recommended for long term storage of emergency pill, since I don't know how air/water tight the closure is. For a permanent seal, apply a small amount of wood glue to the threads before closing. Through the ages, people has given out acorns as a symbol of prosperity and luck. This one is a unique gift.
