This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out of Yellow Box Burl (Eucalyptus melliodora) with Desert Ironwood (Olneya tesota) cap. An interesting Eucalyptus species from down under, the famed Yellow Box has perfumed, cream coloured blossoms which are a source of honey with excellent taste (its botanical name Melliodora means honey-scented). The wood is as dense as boxwood, thus the common name. The burl is rare, loaded with figure and dense enough for a direct thread. Capped with Desert Ironwood. This timber is hard and heavy like a piece of iron, but with the shimmering of gold and the smoothness of glass when polished. Desert Ironwood is probably the nicest looking wood, and is considered one of the only two precious timbers from North America. The American Indian believes that the wood will bring luck and good health to the people who carries it.
