This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out of Aromatic Cedar (Juniperus virginiana) with Chechen (Metopium brownei) cap. Among many of other so called cedars, this species is another cedar-wannabe. It is actually a juniper, but the common name, or misnomer, stuck. The brownish-red heartwood is fragrant, very light and very rot resistance. Moths do not like the aroma from this timber, so it is often used as lining for clothes chests and closets. What a nice mix of yellow and red! The Chechen cap is also known as Caribbean Rosewood, another rosewood wannabe. The warm tone of this dark wood complements the reddish body and adds a set of pattern of its own.
