This is a very special mushroom shaped box made out of American Holly (Illex opaca) with Japanese Pagoda Tree (Sophora japonica) cap. Another species of mushroom for your collection. This one is a larger sized mushroom with interesting pattern and coloration on the cap and subtle natural stains on the body. It looks so cute when paired with a smaller mushroom. Japanese Pagoda tree is a new species I recently acquired, thanks to my neighbor's decision to cut down one from his backyard. When I looked at the cross-cut log, I knew that it would sprout nice mushrooms, and surely it did! Holly is the species with red berries for Holidays decoration. It has the whitest wood of all, perfect for mushroom stalks!
