This is a nice sized acorn shaped box made out of Hawaii Sandalwood (Santalum paniculatum) with Tambootie (Spirostachys africanus) cap. This is a humongous acorn considering the timber involved. A piece of rare sandawood at this size is truly a luxury! This one also has a nice mix of figures and subtle colors. Sandalwood is a parasitic small tree that establishes on the roots of host trees. The oil from the wood has a distinctive, pleasant scent. The aromatic oil from the wood is also used for medicine and perfume.  The inside of this acorn was not sealed with a finish for your sniffing pleasure. The wall of this acorn is also a bit thicker to contain the aroma. Tambotie is also known as African sandalwood, although not a true sandalwood species. The aroma of this wood does not last as long, but the warm brown wood is exceptionally beautiful.  A nice box for your valuables.
