This is a pretty slim threaded holder made out of Texas Ebony (Pithecellobium flexicaule) with Mun Ebony (Diopsyros mun) cap.  Here you have an ebony wannabe, but I don't see why this timber need to be called "ebony" with a qualifier. It is a gorgeous woods in their own rights, fine grain, nice color.  It is considered one of the only two precious timbers from North America (the other one is Arizona Desert Ironwood). The tone is warm dark brown with lighter streaks, a very nice timber that was named after the great state of Texas! Mun Ebony, on the other hand is a true ebony species, featuring subtle streak pattern.
