This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out of Milo Burl (Thespesia populnea) with Curly Hawaiian Koa (Acacia koa) cap.   A Hibiscus relative, Milo is a very nice shade tree that grows by the ocean. The wood is a nice pink color when it is freshly cut but with age it will turn medium to dark brown.  It is is strong and very durable, and was one of the woods the early Hawaiians used for making calabash bowls.  Here, I have a piece of very rare burl form this nice timber.  Capped with shimmering curly Koa, this is truly a Hawaiian acorn.
