This is a nice acorn shaped box made out of Ancient Kauri (Agathis australis) with Verawood (Bulnesia sarmientoi) cap. Since I made an acorn out of the other Agathis species (Malaysian Raja Kaju), might as well display this extra special wood for the fun of it. For those who are not familiar with the Kauri, this is the oldest wood in the world, say more than 50,000 years (the limit of carbon dating, it might even be older than that!), when the dinosaurs still roamed the earth. It was another case of prehistoric tree falling en-masse into prehistoric swamps and got sort of mummified. Only native to New Zealands, this unique timber is the national buried treasure. Needless to say, it does not surface very often. The wood is soft but workable after all these years. It has an interesting shimmer. Capped with green Verawood to mimic the color of just ripe oak acorn.
A nice box for your valuables. The screw-on cap makes this nature inspired box extra special and ensures that your content is secured, good for jewelry, keepsake... Through the ages, people has given out acorns as a symbol of prosperity and luck. This one is a unique gift.
