This is a larger acorn shaped box made out of Bocote (Cordia elaeagnoides) with Burmese Blackwood (Dalbergia cultrata) cap.  Bocote is in the same family with Ziricote--a more or less dark wood with wild pattern.  The figure in Bocote can also be very striking and the lighter background provides higher contrast.  The color of this wood tend to darken with time.  The wood is oily, dense and polished up silky smooth.  This highly patterned nut calls for a more subtle, dark cap to prevent a visual overload for the beholder.  Burmese Blackwood fits the design.  It is a real rosewood species and is almost as dark as its African Blackwood cousin.
