This is a nice acorn shaped box made out of Olive Burl (Olea europaea) with  Black Palm (Borassus flabellifer) cap.  Olive is a tree of many religious, cultural and economic significants.  The leafy branches of Oilve are considered as a symbol of abundance, glory and peace. Olive oil also has been considered sacred and is till use in many religious ceremonies. The oil and fruit are important ingredients in many cuisines.  Olive is  the most mentioned tree in the Western sacred texts and literatures.  And the wood is one of my favorite with it's extra fine grain and beautiful figure, but the burl is absolutely a feast to the eyes, as seen in this exceptional piece.  Capped with Black Palm, another very useful species, for added visual interest.  This is one pretty acorn!
