This is a unique wood turned vessel made out of Staghorn Sumac (Rhus typhina) with Verawood (Bulnesia sarmientoi) cap.  An ornamental tree native to Eastern North America, Staghorn Sumac is another wood (beside Lignum Vita, Verawood and just a few others) that possesess a greenish color, and a lot more.  Looking at this vessel, I can see many shades of green... and yellow... and red...  The wood is porous so I had to spend a long time stabilizing and sanding before it became this shimmering rainbow.  Staghorn sumac is a source of a natural dye and the wood also fluorest under black light!  The Verawood cap also turns deep green with time to echo the green streaks in the vessel.  What a fun and unique thing!
