LV-3146 Port Orford Cedar & Myrtle Acorn Pill Box, Jewelry, Engagement Ring Box-AROMATIC

$ 115.00

This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out of Port Orford Cedar (Chamaecyparis lawsoniana) & Oregon Myrtle (Umbellularia californica) cap.  This cedar bears the name of a beautiful Oregon's coastal town.  We had fun there one summer watching boats being hauled off the water into the only drydock port on the West Coast. It is not a true cedar, so it is more accurate to call it by it's other name: Lawson cypress.  I don't known Mr. Lawson, but  I know Port Orford, so I rather call it by the long, tougue twisting name for the memmory it evokes.  The timber is rather plain, except here I have a very nicely patterned piece close to the root ball.  The timber emits a strong, distinctive, spicey scent for an interesting olfactory experience.  I did not seal the inside of this acorn so every time you open it, you cam inhale the aroma.  Cap with Oregon Myrtle for a full 'Oregon' favor.  Bay Laurel is a monotypic and endemic species.  Oregon Myrtle is also known as California Bay Laurel when it crosses over to that state.  However,  it is not a true laurel nor myrtle, just happen to have the spicy aroma.  The wood smells so good when turn, but the scent does not persist in finished piece.  The tree was valued by Native Americans as food source and medicine.  Today,   it is well sought after as a world class tone wood.  The wood has a nice tight grain with a shimmering sheen.  This is one special acorn!

A nice box for your valuables. The screw-on cap ensures that your content is secured, good for  small jewelry, keepsake... Thought the ages, people has given out acorns as a symbol of prosperity and luck. This one is a unique gift.
