This vessel was made out of California Buckeye (Aesculus californica) with Indian Ebony (Diospyros ebenum) base and finial. It came from a perfect piece of Buckeye burl: nice, even mix of dark and light swirls with just enough voids, eyes and bark inclusion to make it visually complex, yet elegant. The form is also extremely pleasing to the eye. Another interesting touch is the circular inlay on the top of the vessel. It was embedded with bits and pieces of a blue-green lichen often found growing along with the Buckeye . This one is on the top of my favorites list!
The finial cap is loose fitting and can be lifted with one hand. This box is perfect box for small jewelries or valuables. Or it can be displayed as a unique collector's item.
