This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out of Tulipwood (Dalbergia decipularis) with Brown Ebony (Caesalpina paraguariensis) cap. Tulipwood is a true rosewood native to the tropical region of South America, mainly Brazil. It is fine grin, hard and heavy. This is a brightest color rosewood that I have worked with. The pinkish streaks on the light background is very striking. This cross-cut acorn also sports some very interesting shimmering streaks. From Argentina, Brown Ebony features dark chocolate brown tones with a pleasing grain pattern. It is not the true ebony species but has characteristics similar to Black ebony: very stable, will not change color over time and polishes very nicely. I particularly like the warm tone of this wood and the subtle but nice grain pattern. This is an acorn of misnomers, a tulipwood with nothing to do with tulip and an ebony that is not really ebony. Together, they look smashingly beautiful whatever way you call them!
