This is a unique vase made out of California Black Oak Burl (Quercus kelloggii). I have a weakness for oak (and it's acorn, obviously). Oak is the national tree of several countries , including the USA. It is a symbol of strength and endurance. The wood has interesting ray fleck figure and earthy feel. This piece has knots, voids, and wild figure with a decorative natural edge. A real challenge to turn but well worth the effort. This is another seldom seen oak species, native to California. The piece has a satin smooth but matted surface to retain it's rustic feel. This is a one of a kind collector item that provide a feast to the eyes and a great tactile experience!
