This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out of Brown Ebony (Caesalpina paraguariensis) with Betelnut (Areca catechu) cap. From Argentina, Brown Ebony features dark chocolate brown tones with a pleasing grain pattern. It is not the true ebony species but has characteristics similar to Black ebony: very hard (too hard!), heavy, stable, will not change color over time and polishes very nicely. I particularly like the warm tone of this wood and the subtle but nice grain pattern. The Betelnut cap accents the earthy tone of this nut perfectly.
