This is a very pretty apple shaped shaker made out of Aromatic Cedar (Juniperus virgiania) with a simple twig as a stem.  Among many of other so called cedars, this species is another cedar-wannabe.  It is actually a juniper, but the common name, or misnomer,  stuck.  The brownish-red heartwood is fragrant, very light and very rot resistance.  Moths do not like the aroma from this timber, so it is often used as lining for clothes chests and closets. Yes, this is the cedar that you are familiar with. This wood is light but very fine grain, with nice pinkish color streaks just perfect for an apple!  This one has a larger hole than the other shakers for coarser spices, or to contain shimmering glitters for your craft
