LV-3715 Hand Turned Pear Shaker/Secrete Compartment from Persimmon Wood & Ebony-SCREW CAP

$ 110.00

This is a whimsical spice shaker in the shape of a pear made out of Persimmon (Diospyros virginiana) with Mun ebony (Diopsyros mun) stem.  Persimmon is a true ebony species, the only native American ebony.  It is heavy, hard and polishes well.  You can see some random dots of ebonized wood,  The timber is not all that common commercially.  I like to see persimmon tree in the late fall with bright, cheerful orange fruits hanging from leafless branches. I like to eat them, too!  It is only natural that I make a persimmon from this wood.  Also known as Fruit of the Gods, persimmon is the symbol of joy in China, and triumph in Japan.

Once in a while, I got request for salt shaker, so I have been thinking about that.  Here is a new concept for a shaker.  The bottom has a rubber plug for easy filling of the content.  The stem serves as a plug for the container, so your spice stays dry, and ensures that the small hole does not get encrusted.  Pull the stem up, shake out the salt (or whatever finely grounded spice), and plug it up again.  This is a fun addition to a rustic kitchen, pair it with a apple shaker and you are ready to shake away!

Dimension (largest diameter x height): 2-3/8" x 4-1/2"
