This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out of Port Orford Cedar (Chamaecyparis lawsoniana) & Bur Oak (Quercus macrocarpa) cap. This cedar bears the name of a beautiful Oregon's coastal town. We had fun there one summer watching boats being hauled off the water into the only drydock port on the West Coast. Port Orford Cedar is one of the more unique woods growing in North America. It is very light, yet very strong, thus highly prized for boat building, cabinetry, furniture, doors, etc. Port Orford Cedar is also one of the most acid, pest and rot resistant woods known. The timber is rather plain, but not so for the rarely-seen burl! The swirls and curls are visual feast; the silky smooth surface nice to the touch, and the distinctive, spicy scent an interesting olfactory experience. Capped with Bur oak with it's intersting pattern for extra visual effect. Open this acorn up and take a sniff. You'll be surprise!
A nice box for your valuables. The screw-on cap makes this nature inspired box extra special and ensures that your content is secured, good for jewelry, keepsake... Through the ages, people has given out acorns as symbol of prosperity and luck. This one is a unique gift.
