This is a beautiful vase made out of Pink Flame (Rinorea racemosa) and Indian Ebony (Diospyros ebernum) base. Pink Flame is a new and very rare timber from Peru. The species was just recently been identified. The heartwood of the female tree is capable of turning brilliant pink to dark red by some natural chemical processes. Although looks similar to box elder, this wood is much heavier, a lot harder, and more colorful. It is hard to believe that this rock-hard wood came from a tree in the same family as the dainty Violet flower. This hollow form was turned cross grained (a tough job!) to show all the possibilities of the color play. Rare and beautiful!
Dimension (largest diameter x height): 3-1/4" x 3"
-- All wood turned items were hand made and/or hand threaded on a lathe. Hardwood threaded inserts were used for woods that do not accept threading well.
-- The item was sanded to 1200 grid for a mirror finish and sealed with a food-safe varnish, if applicable. For hard, fine grained wood with a natural shine, only wax and oil was applied.
-- Each piece offered is a unique item. The design may be repeated but the dimension and wood combination, and or decorative accent will be different
-- Artist signature and catalog number will be inscribed on the item
