This is a cute mushroom shaped box made out of Betelnut (Areca catechu) cap with Pacific Dogwood (Cornus nuttallii) stalk.  I utilize the edible betelnut in many of my design.  The net-like vein is very eye-catching.  Here, it performs as a mushroom cap.  I know there is a species of mushroom with patterned cap similar to this, but I am not a mushroom expert...The  Dogwood used here is a rarely seen species that grows in California (visit Yosemite in spring if you want to see them in bloom).  It is a very fine grained wood with a nice rosy tint.  The wood turned and polished up so well, it is the local wood of choice for my threaded items.
