This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out of Osage Orange (Maclura pomifera) with Black Walnut (Juglans negra) cap. Osage Orange is a hedge tree found in the Great Plains, from south Oklahoma to Northern Texas. The name of the tree comes from the native Osage tribe and the aroma of the riped fruit. It has nothing to do with the common citrus orange. The wood is one of America's most colorful timber. I like to made items from osage orange, just to brighten the look of my online store, but never manage to keep them there for long. The bright yellow wood simmers and glows. The color will deepen with exposure. The bright yellow contrasts against the dark walnut cap, which has everything to do with the nuts you might find in some dishes, such as Honey Walnut Shrimp, one of my culinary favorite!
A nice box for your valuables. The screw-on cap ensures that your content is secured, good for jewelry, keepsake... Through the ages, people has given out acorns as a symbol of prosperity and luck. This one is a unique gift.
