This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out of Buckeye Burl (Aesculus californica) with Black Walnut Burl (Juglans negra) cap. I am in the mood for local woods, so here you have yet another California native, with the "californica" in it's Latin name. Buckeye is one of my favorite species around here: beautiful leaves, massive flower heads, picturesque form, interesting fruit (that dangle from leaveless trees) and bluish burl wood that looks like no other! It is one of the few wood that exhibit this kind of color, add the wild pattern and it is truly unique. Capped with a California grown, highly figured walnut burl for added effect.
