This is a larger acorn shaped box made out of Big Leaf Maple Burl (Acer macrophylla) with Brownheart (Vouacapoua americana) cap.  Native to southern Canada and the New England states, This maple species is best known for its bright fall foliage.  I have this piece of burl for a while, but did not work on it until now.  The wood of this species is softer than the hard sugar maple, so it required an extra step of stabilization before I can even cut the threads.  All is worth it.  Look at how beautiful this burl is!   The Brownheart cap adds contrast without distraction form this gorgeous acorn.
