This is a larger acorn shaped box made out of Bocote Cordia elaeagnoides) with Black Walnut (Juglans negra) cap.  Bocote is in the same family with Ziricote--a more or less dark wood with wild pattern.  The figure in Bocote can also be very striking and the lighter background provides higher contrast.  The color of this wood tend to darken with time.  The wood is oily, dense and polished up silky smooth.  This wildly patterned nut calls for a more subtle, earthy brown cap to prevent a visual overload for the beholder.  the piece of burly black walnut, with it's subtle figure serves handsomely as the cap.
