This is a mini acorn box made out of Pollyana burl (Irvingia malayana) with Betelnut (Areca catechu) cap. Pollyanna is a SE Asia species with mango-like, edible fruit. The tree is very large, tall with buttress-like roots. The wood is very hard and dense, valued for heavy construction. The burl has beautiful swirling pattern and subtle color variation. It is one of the burl I really like, since it is dense enough to accept threading directly. Betel nut is an important palm nut in india, SE Asia and Oceania cultures. It is chewed with betel leaves and lime for the mild stimulant effect; often offered as a sign of hospitality or friendship. The nut is also associated with legends and is a symbol for marital love. It is a perfect nut for an acorn cap with it's striking pattern.
This pretty acorn has a small secret compartment for daily pills or memorial keepsake. The screw-on cap ensures that your content is secured, yet can be easily accessed. It is equipped with an antique bronze lobster claw for easy attachment to keychain, bag charm, zipper pull...
