This is a nice mini acorn box made out of Coast Live Oak (Quercus agrifolia) with Betelnut (Areca catechu) cap.   I don't know why it took me this long to make a pendant acorn out of oak wood. What timber can be more appropriate or an acorn than the oak itself. This species is no ordinary wood.  It is from the majestic live oaks that grace the California foothills.  Love the dendritic branches that twist and turn, weaving these picturesque canopies. But because of the twist and turn, this wood is not often utilized as commercial timber due to the challenge of obtaining any decent sized lumber out of them.  For me, it is the wood of choice!  I drive around my neighborhood every week, looking for oak trimming on the curbside and snack what I can before the green recycle truck haul them off.
