This is a very special mushroom shaped box made out of Red Oak (Quercus rubra) cap with Brownheart (Vouacapoua americana) stalk.  This one is the largest one I managed to grow from my lathe.  It's difficult to find such a big oak branch that can be dried with no splitting.  I like oak for mushroom cap. The radial rays of oak mimics the gills of the mushroom perfectly. The stalk is made from Brownheart wood, a nice timber from south America with warm brown tone.  The color of the stalk matches the dark brown rim of the mushroom cap nicely.  This mushroom is high enough to hold a few crochet hooks up to 6.5" long. This is one king-size saprophyte!
