This is a very pretty acorn shaped box made out of Manzanita (Arctostaphylos manzanita) & Brown Ebony (Caesalpina paraguariensis) cap. Manzanita is a beautiful shrub with contorted, red bark branches that grows on the foot hills of California. The wood is exceptionally fine grain but notoriously difficult to dry without checks or splits. One of my favorite wood out of almost 1000 species I have collected. The wood varies from deep brownish red to pink. Here is a nice pinkish piece for the nut. From Argentina, Brown Ebony features dark chocolate brown tones with a pleasing grain pattern. It is not the true ebony species but has characteristics similar to Black ebony: very stable, will not change color over time and polishes very nicely. I particularly like the warm tone of this wood and the sublte but nice grain pattern.

It is ready to dangle off your keychain, bag zipper, belt with the removable lobster claw. The nut is small enough to be worn as a pendant (without the claw). Good for small daily pills, keepsake...Not recommended for long term storage of emergency pill, since I don't know how air/water tight the closure is. Through the ages, people has given out acorns as a symbol of prosperity and luck. This one is a unique gift.
