This is a very special mangosteen shaped box made out of Purpleheart (Peltogyne paniculata) with Verawood (Bulnesia sarmientoi) cap.  

Mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana) is one of my favorite tropical fruits.  You don't see it here very often because the fruit was banned from import due to a certain pest it carries.  I start to see it more often in oriental markets here now.  I heard that people are growing it in Hawaii.  It's a delicious, melt in your mouth fruit that can be very addicting.   Here is a wooden representation of the dark purple fruit with a green, 4-lobe calyx, about the actual size and color.  Look how cute and delicious it is!
